August’s community grant has been donated £1,000 to Cowpe Sunday School to help fund the installation of a life-saving defibrillator in the village.
We recognised a vital need for a defibrillator in rural Cowpe, where the nearest A & E department is now a 30 minute drive away, and gave the donation as part of our recently launched charity initiative, which sees us give away £1,000 each month to worthy causes in the areas we build homes.
The life-saving device will be situated, once installed, outside Cowpe Sunday School and Community Hall, which is used by everyone from local pensioners who attend for lunch clubs and social events, to mums and their tots who attend toddler groups together.
Wendy Davison, who fundraises for Cowpe Sunday School, explained: “Since Burnley’s A & E department closed, we’ve been discussing how to tackle the emergency services provision in our village and the desperate need for more publicly-accessible defibrillators in the area.
“We’re so delighted that Skipton Properties has stepped in to help, along with East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group, who’ve also kindly donated £650. Sincere thanks to them both for making this possible – it’s a great example of local businesses and organisations working together to support their local communities.”
Caroline Verity, our sales, design and marketing director at Skipton Properties, has said: “The new defibrillator has the potential to save lives, so of course we wanted to help fund such an important initiative for the people of Cowpe. We’re happy to be able to increase our commitment to the safety and care of the local community, and invest in the future of the area.”
Many of you may know that we transformed the disused former mill site in Cowpe last year, turning it into a new community of 20 four and five-bedroom homes. The last home in the popular Kearns Village development sold in July this year.
Apply for your own charitable cause
We would now like to hear from other local charities in the towns and villages in each of our current and future developments launching over the next 12 months. The only criteria is that the charity benefits local people.
We’d like to thank those of you who have already applied. We are afraid, due to the level of applications, we receive, we can’t reply to you all. We’ll be in touch if you secure one of our month’s grant.
Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis in advance of the next month’s charitable donation. We release information on those worthy causes we award our grants to via our news area of our website, local news and social media. Our next award, September’s charitable grant, will be announced later this month. Visit www.skiptonproperties.com/charity/ to complete your application.
