  • Interiors inspiration with Laura Baarda of Bowman Riley…

Moving into a new home is always exciting, and the possibilities for creating a fresh new look are endless! Even if you’re working with existing furniture, there are always ways to inject new style into your space. From updating your window treatments to adding a few well-placed accents, a little change can go a long way.

To help you stay ahead of the curve, we’ve consulted with Laura Baarda, Head of Interiors at Bowman Riley, to bring you the latest trends for 2023. Plus, we’ve sourced looks direct from high-street brands so you can easily recreate these trends in your own home. Get ready to be inspired!

1 ~ Tonal Warm Colour Palettes

We’re seeing many lovely tonal palettes layered with elegant patterns and textures, paired with casual slubby linens and plush, rich velvets.

    2 ~ Bronze Beauty

After the popularity of simple black brassware over the last few years, paired with either natural light oak or dark black timber, we are now seeing a more classical and flexible set of finishes. Bronze brassware brings warmth and pairs beautifully with varying oak tones.

3 ~ Adding drama to tonal schemes

When decorating any room in your home, you might feel like something is missing, and that could well be a bold accent. Adding a solid black or tan splash in small areas of the room is one of the quickest ways to add drama to a space while creating a harmonious scheme. Depending on the outcome you wish to arrive at, accents can be complementary or contrasting to the leading tone of the room, but either way, they are there to emphasise the overall colour, not detract from it.

    H&M HOME
    ZARA HOME

We take pride in curating spaces that strike the perfect balance between timeless elegance and cutting-edge design. We hope to be able to show you what beautiful spaces you could create in our homes with the launch of a brand new Show Home later this year.

Before we go, please remember we recommend waiting a year to paint your new home to allow it some time to settle 🙂

  • Happy Valentines Day. We’ve donated £725 to Tiny Tickers

Like many of our family team, I have a young child, and because of this, Sarah and I feel passionate about helping children’s charities.

So today, on Valentine’s Day, we’re donating to Tiny Tickers. A national charity Improving the early detection and care of babies with serious heart conditions.

Did you know that a baby is born with a congenital defect every two hours in the U.K.? Babies born with severe heart problems are at significant risk of disability or even death if not diagnosed before they fall into the early stages of heart failure. Therefore, early detection is essential, so today, we’ve donated £725, so they can supply more machines to the hospitals that need them and hopefully save more lives.

To find out more about the charity and how you might be able to help, go to their website here. Or to find out about our other charitable endeavours, please click here.

We hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with your loved ones.

    Best, Caroline and Sarah x

  • Say hello to our Sales Advisor, Karen L 🙂

Today, we’d like to say hello to a new addition to our family team: Karen L, our newest Sales Advisor guiding our homeowners through one of the most significant decisions of their life!! Karen joined us in December and has been a busy bee ever since getting to know our homeowners.

What experience do you bring to your role here at Skipton Properties?

I have been in the housebuilding industry for over twenty years, working for various new-build developers. With so many years under my belt, I am adept at translating plans for our customers so they can confidently buy off-plan. I love my role and was overjoyed when Skipton Properties offered me a job. It is nice to work for a developer that I genuinely believe in.

Our customer journey is important to us. So what do we do differently at Skipton Properties?

Every developer tries to put customers and families at the centre of everything they do, providing a seamless journey – from the beginning to completion – with attention to detail and care. But being family-run, this value naturally runs through our veins, ensuring each customer receives an unforgettable experience.

When you walked up to a completed Skipton Properties home at Bolton Gardens, your first reaction was WOW. Please talk to us a little about this considering your experience in the industry.

I’ve never seen homes built by a developer of your size with such attention to detail on each elevation. I could go on, the stone you use here at Bolton Gardens, the block paved driveways, but the feature I have yet to see anywhere else is the size of those patios. In many cases, they span the entire width of the house. Such size changes how our homeowners use their gardens, giving them enough space for a table and chairs and some lounge seating.

You’ll find Karen at Bolton Gardens, Silsden, for much of her week. However, she is also available for appointments to view our last two homes at Ebor Mills, Haworth.

Speaking of the stone we use at Bolton Gardens in Silsden 😉

  • In conversation…..

    ….with our kitchen supplier, Howdens

For over a decade, we’ve been proud to partner with Howdens Joinery. Delighting our customers with their beautiful kitchens that are stylish yet practical. her essential

How long have you been designing kitchens?

I’ve been a Kitchen Designer at Howdens since 2003, and have been Skipton Properties’ design lead since our relationship began. My background was in interior design, which provided the base experience in order to design kitchens at Howdens.

The ‘Middleton’ Show Home Kitchen at The Alders, Skipton

What’s your first consideration when starting a kitchen design for Skipton Properties?

My first consideration is who might live in this home, might this home appeal to first time buyers or families? And then I start with the basics, how much storage is required? And from there, I can get creative on the flow of the kitchen, mindful of the design of the home.

Plot 4, View Home, Ebor Mills, Haworth

“I love striking just the right balance between traditional and contemporary, using colours and textures to add that extra “oomph”!

What are your essential requirements for a well-designed kitchen?

Kitchen design should offer the perfect balance of style and function. From sound storage solutions to creative zones for food prep and cooking, you can get your culinary space humming like a well-oiled machine – no more bumping elbows in cramped corners! Whether it be clever pull outs or an island that adds informal dining opportunities on top of valuable storage, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as finding just what you need when creating some delicious meals with ease.

What are absolute no no’s in kitchen design?

We like to achieve that airy, open feel in a kitchen. I make sure to leave sufficient clearance between appliance handles and other obstructions – such as a sink or window frame – so they won’t be accidentally knocked when passing by.

What are your favourite styles at the moment?

It really depends on the project, property style and “look” being created. I love striking just the right balance between traditional and contemporary, using colours and textures to add that extra “oomph”!

Talk to us about 2023 trends.

Kitchens are becoming an oasis of lifestyle and personality, allowing you to express yourself with a range of bold colours as well as calm earth tones. The Scandi look remains fashionable, while green and tranquil blues have become the latest must-have additions to your culinary space.

  • 2022 LABC Building Excellence Awards

    We’re anxiously awaiting the results…

This Friday, we’ll find out if we have won the national award for ‘Best Residential Conversion’ at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2022.

Our entry is for our completed development, St Stephen’s Place in Skipton. A development that included the renovation of several Grade II listed buildings.

It was quite an achievement to be a regional winner, but a national accolade would be a fantastic accomplishment. There is some tough competition in the category but we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!

Hear from a homeowner at St Stephen’s Place

“I had an excellent experience buying a home with Skipton Properties. What I like most about my new home is its uniqueness, the historical relevance, original features (especially the windows), internal finish and attention to detail, as well as its ideal location for the town centre yet with parking.”

  • It’s National Compliment Day!

We thought it was the perfect opportunity to salute our hardworking Site Managers, considering they are the thread that weaves everything together 🙂

(From left to right) David has put in 6 years on the Site Management team and his dedication shows. Michael loves taking on the everyday challenges of Site Management! John enjoys watching customers move into their happy new homes. Lee (a finalist at 2021’s LABC Building Excellence Awards) gets immense satisfaction seeing all of our sites come alive with beautiful stone homes, while Craig is passionate about giving his team members and customers an uplifting experience.

We asked them what their favourite home is and why…

At The Alders, Skipton, Craig is smitten with the charming three-bedroom Bramble, drawn to its perfectly proportioned, traditional elevations and impressive master bedroom and Lee, likes The Wood. With generous living areas, four bedrooms and a study, it’s the perfect family home.

At Bolton Gardens, in Silsden, Michael fell in love with the large kitchen and timeless style of The Ermysted, a charming family home currently available in our future releases at Bolton Gardens in Silsden. Meanwhile, David chose The Craven’s stunning four-bedroom layout, a beautifully flowing, cleverly designed and undeniably popular home.

John, our Site Manager at Ebor Mills, Haworth, has developed a fondness for the delightful Warehouse and Spinning Mill homes due to the quirky integral balconies.

Whose day will you brighten with a compliment?

  • Customer Stories: Raymond and Diane

Raymond and Diane, The Ashton: Bolton Gardens, Silsden

Why did you want to make Bolton Gardens, and Silsden, your home?

When we saw that you were building here in Silsden we booked to view straight away. Living in Oxenhope previously, we have wanted to move over this way for some time, and Bolton Gardens, a stone’s throw from Ilkley, was perfect for us. The development has a real ‘Yorkshire Dales feel’ to it; we love it!

It made our buying decision so much easier having lived in a Skipton Properties build previous to this, albeit a refurbishment; we already understood your company values, the buying process and the quality of finishes.

What made you buy a Skipton Properties home for the second time?

Having lived in an SP refurbishment previously, we were already impressed with the finishes. It made our buying decision so much easier, we had a good understanding of your company values and the buying process.

We did view other new build developments in the area, but our heart was with Skipton Properties and Bolton Gardens.

What was your experience of buying a new home with us?

Great! We were always able to come and look at our home during each stage; our Sales Advisors were always accommodating. After a particular visit to the development, we remember heading into Ilkley for a coffee and thinking wow! We were so happy to have secured this particular home.

One of our final visits was after the carpets had been laid; that was a real defining moment for us, seeing the finishes in person. We knew we were going to be happy here!

What made you choose the Ashton style?

Although we bought off-plan, our Sales Advisor at the time, Karen D, talked us through the layout and full design of The Ashton. Our home flows beautifully and it’s just what we were looking for.

A 3-storey home wasn’t what we wanted anymore; we needed something that suited our lifestyles more. Knowing we needed to downsize was daunting, but little things, like the amount of built-in storage and the size of the bedrooms in The Ashton, put our minds at rest straight away. Our family are regularly here, living locally themselves, and we never feel cramped! We can’t wait to throw open our dining doors in the Summer and host some family BBQs 😉

Talk to us about the day you moved in.

It all went relatively smooth! The team on site were really helpful; we have no complaints. The worst part of the whole day was the rain!
