It can’t be easy for the residents living nearby, but the site is impeccably clean, the workers are friendly, and they happily explain their activities whenever we inquire. Additionally, their commitment to contributing to the community is truly appreciated.” We were thrilled to receive such kind words and felt reassured that our efforts are making a positive impact.

  • A commitment to the community of Foulridge

Recently, we paid a visit to Croft Mill, our newest development, where we took the time to admire the beauty of the area in which we are building and engage with the local community. During our stroll around the development, we were thrilled to hear residents speak highly of our work and express their satisfaction with the transformation of the area so far.

One local resident, overflowing with joy, proudly proclaimed her delight at the removal of the old mill, making way for 17 new family homes. She even went as far as to say that she couldn’t imagine any other developer handling the project. The heartfelt appreciation from community members is a testament to the dedication and care we put into every development.

Another resident shared a heartwarming story about his daily routine with his son. Each day, they walk past Croft Mill, and the young boy’s excitement for the construction project and the diggers is unmatched. Dressed in his own hi-vis gear, the little one never fails to wave at the team, and to everyone’s delight, we always reciprocate. These small moments of connection exemplify our positive impact on the community’s spirit.

During our visit, we also took the opportunity to meet with the local councillor to discuss further ongoing initiatives to give back to the community of Foulridge. We reflected on our previous discussions about contributing to the blighted allotment area. With our sights set on the next steps, we have decided to donate £4000 towards much-needed improvements in the local park. The allocated funds will be utilised to enhance the park’s facilities, creating a safe and inviting environment for our new residents as well as those living in the surrounding area. Furthermore, the park’s convenient proximity to Croft Mill allows for easy accessibility, just a hop, skip, and jump away for everyone to enjoy!

At Skipton Properties, we don’t just build homes; we want to build communities that extend beyond the boundaries of our developments, and we’re committed to ensuring that our homes and their new families feel connected to where they live. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to work alongside the community and council to foster a stronger, more vibrant Foulridge.

  • A Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

World Environment Day 2023: A Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

In a steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility, we consistently prioritise sustainability throughout our operations. Over 15 years ago, the company took a proactive step by establishing our own quarry to recycle and repurpose materials found on-site. Our founder’s unwavering dedication to minimising waste by promoting recycling has become a lasting legacy. Although he is no longer with us, his daughters, Sarah and Caroline, carry the same passion for the cause.

Building on this foundation, we joined forces with Beyondly to assess and measure our carbon emissions. Through this collaboration, we have diligently calculated our environmental footprint, conducted thorough analyses, and successfully reduced or transitioned to renewable energy sources whenever feasible.

Excitingly, we are also proud to announce our renewed partnership with the esteemed Yorkshire Millennium Trust. We’re committed to producing flourishing communities, and our investment in creating a new community woodland at The Alders in Skipton does just that. Interested individuals are invited to contact us via email at [email protected] to participate in this remarkable initiative.

  • Customer Stories: Dianne, living in the unique Marbill Residences at Victoria Fold, Sabden

While we diligently construct our two exquisite reimagined barns in Silsden, we reached out to a homeowner who has lived on our previous Sabden development for just over a year. Like our barns, this remarkable residence was thoughtfully designed to harmonise its existing surroundings.

“The house’s exterior appearance is captivating, characterised by exquisite stonework, elegant grey window frames, and a well-maintained flagged pathway that creates a lasting impression. Stepping inside, the interior does not disappoint either. The kitchen has been thoughtfully designed, offering ample space for a dining table.”

Having witnessed Skipton’s construction of properties in Cowpe while living in my previous home, I was truly impressed by their exceptional design, aesthetic appeal, high-quality craftsmanship, generous dimensions, and overall development size. Therefore, when I discovered they were building homes in Sabden, I eagerly wanted to explore further.

Sympathetic to its existing surroundings, my current house possesses a charming quirkiness, as it gracefully follows the curvature of the brook—a feature that I absolutely adore. The rooms are wonderfully spacious, and the kitchen and bathrooms exude a remarkable level of quality. The room dimensions are fabulous, and the fact that we have our own bathroom has significantly eased our lives, particularly with teenage daughters!

“I wholeheartedly recommend Skipton properties based on my personal experience. Their attention to detail, exceptional craftsmanship, and ability to create homes that effortlessly blend aesthetics with functionality has made our living experience truly enjoyable.”

One of the highlights of our home is the delightful view of the brook that greets us as we descend the stairs—an enchanting sight that never fails to captivate our guests and sparks conversations. Though subtle, the brook’s gentle sound brings a soothing and relaxing ambience. Additionally, the generously sized windows allow an abundance of natural light to flood our living spaces, further enhancing our love for this home.

  • Skipton Building Society launches 100% mortgage to help renters get on the property ladder

What Does it Mean for You?

In essence, the mortgage deal is aimed at helping first-time buyers and renters without a house deposit get onto the property ladder and can be used on properties up to the value of £600,000.

SBS says the deal is to help people “trapped in rental cycles” who are often prevented from being able to save for a deposit to buy a house for the first time.

The “Track Record” Mortgage will allow people with a strong history of paying their rent on time and in full to buy their first home with little-to-no deposit.

First-time buyers aged 21 and over will be able to take out a mortgage up to 100% of the value of the property they want to buy. However, they must provide evidence of paying rent for 12 months in a row (over the last 18 months) and have a good credit rating to be eligible.

Whereas 100% mortgage deals in the past required a family member as a guarantor, Skipton Building Society’s new offering only needs evidence of the rental payments to show affordability for a mortgage.

Take the time to explore this exciting offer, gain insights into your affordability, and uncover your dream home by speaking with one of our Sales Advisors today!

  • A new tree for a vibrant community garden in Foulridge

At Skipton Properties, we don’t just build new homes; we want to build communities that extend beyond the boundaries of our developments in Yorkshire and Lancashire. We’re committed to ensuring that our homes and their new families feel connected to where they live. That’s why we’re always looking for ways to give back and support the amazing people who work tirelessly to make our communities vibrant and wonderful places to live. Recently, our Marketing Manager, Vanessa, paid a visit to the new communal gardens in Foulridge, where she met with parish council members and locals who poured their hearts out about the area’s history.

A blighted allotment area had become a bit of a dumping ground. But hope was not lost. In a stunning display of determination, the community banded together and transformed the space into a breathtaking communal garden that locals now love. As one delighted resident put it, “It’s amazing to see so many people sitting, listening to the birds, and harvesting the fruit we’ve grown. For those without their own gardens, this sanctuary is truly priceless.” It’s an inspiring story of the transformative power of community action and something we wanted to encourage. They couldn’t source the funding to buy a new tree, so we’ve ordered one for them .

Interested in living in Foulridge in Lancashire? We’re building a collection of stone-built three- and four-bedroom homes, which will launch later this year. Watch this space!

  • Customer Stories: Chris and Jo, Ebor Mills, Haworth

We sat down with new residents of The Warehouse at Ebor Mills, Haworth…

We lived near a previous Skipton Properties build in Oakworth and were always impressed with the quality of the construction. The houses were immaculate and maintained their pristine condition over the years; even the weathering stonework looked neat and tidy.

What prompted you to make Haworth and Ebor Mills your home?

While we were not specifically looking for a particular home here at Ebor Mills, but we kept visiting and gradually developed a fondness for it. We were particularly drawn to the Warehouse and its many unique features, such as the high ceilings. We were enamoured with the overall vibe and what you were doing with the space. Despite considering numerous other properties, we ultimately ended up in this beautiful home in Haworth.

Were you familiar with Skipton Properties before buying your home?

To be honest, we had no prior knowledge of the company. However, we did live near one of your previous builds in Oakworth and were always impressed with the quality of the construction. The properties were immaculate and maintained their pristine condition over the years; even the weathering stonework looked neat and tidy. We didn’t have much information about other developers in the area. Still, Interestingly, my son, who is in the building trade, recommended Skipton Properties whilst commenting on the high quality and sustainability of the materials.

What was your overall experience like?

Our experience was generally very smooth and handled professionally. We encountered some challenges with our related sale, but the sales team at Skipton Properties were always understanding and approachable. Despite feeling like we were bombarding them with queries at times, they remained supportive and never made us feel like a burden. We must also mention that your construction team was exceptional! They were incredibly accommodating, polite, and an absolute pleasure to have dealings with.

We had a strong desire and determination to make this home our own, and everything worked out well in the end. Here we are!

  • The late Brian Verity receives recognition for his outstanding contributions to the construction industry

Sarah, Caroline and their mother, Linda, were delighted to attend the annual Construction Awards of Excellence last week to receive the ‘NFB Member Special Recognition Award’ on Brian’s behalf. The award recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and community.

It’s been an emotional year for the founding family of Skipton Properties. With the first anniversary of Brian’s passing next week, it is a fitting memory for a larger-than-life character.

The following is the speech given at the NFB’s Construction Summit before the awards evening.

‘The late Brian Verity founded Skipton Properties in 1986 and built his first 100-home site in Skipton, the company’s namesake. Such a large project was bold and reflected his character in business. He started from nothing, and his passion for his family and work drove his ambition to succeed. Whatever the result of his decisions, he’d bounce back with increased vigour to build better; he founded Skipton Properties with a desire to build homes with quality, showcasing workmanship that surpassed most of his peers. Although having grown up in the local area, he wasn’t driven purely by profit (however, of course, this is one of the reasons anyone is in business); he was passionate about leaving a mark on the towns he built in.

One example of this mark is in Oxenhope, West Yorkshire. He took a risk and built many homes in the village, which was struggling with a declining population then. As a result, Skipton Properties’ development projects breathed life back into the area, and to this day, it is still a desirable place to live.

Due to his quality aspirations, he would build a bit differently from other developers, with a large proportion of the workforce under full employment. In addition, with his engineering background, Brian had a passion for machinery, so he found himself at the vanguard of complex development projects and took on challenges other developers wouldn’t dream of – too many to mention here.

Brian lived and breathed Skipton Properties and was involved right to the very end. He was incredibly passionate about his employees and has repeatedly gone above and beyond to help when they have had a crisis. As a result, some of the company’s employees have been with them for over 30 years, a testament to Brian’s relationships and loyalty.

A Family man, Friend, Employer, and NFB member. Brian had many hats. Let’s celebrate him for his loyalty, wanting to succeed for his family, passion for construction and caring nature.

Here’s to our father and late leader.

“As you can imagine, it was an emotional moment receiving this award on behalf of our father. It would have been a proud moment for him, not that he would have made that known!

Our father was a very caring man; he cared about his employees and the legacy he was creating. His passion for quality runs through our company’s veins, and it’s all been made possible by his founding vision. We’re honoured to take the company forward and build on what he created”

    Sarah and Caroline

Brian wasn’t the only man commended for his contributions on the evening. We’d also like to take the opportunity to congratulate James Harrison of J.E. Harrison Builders and Robert Bion Manners of T Manners and Sons, who also received this award for their own outstanding contributions.
