  • Providing homes for service men and women

We are delighted to announce that we have forged a new partnership with Auxesia Homes, a leading provider of affordable rent, rent to buy and shared ownership new build homes across the North of England. Auxesia Homes finds high quality, sustainable and affordable homes for those who serve our country, prioritising former and serving members of the British Armed Forces, NHS and Emergency Services. Auxesia Homes is the chosen registered provider of affordable properties at Bolton Gardens, and will bring 11 two-bedroom homes, built with care by Skipton Properties, to market for purchase under the Shared Ownership scheme.

‘We passionately believe that Britain’s Armed Forces, NHS and Emergency Service Personnel deserve to be given the highest priority in securing affordable properties. We are thankful that Skipton Properties have chosen to align themselves with us in our combined effort to support individuals and families who have served, or continue to serve, our country,” said Ryan Blair, Chief Operating Officer at Auxesia Homes.”

The development will number 77 natural stone and slate homes in total and is called Bolton Gardens, as a nod to its location on Bolton Road and the fact that it is surrounded by beautiful countryside. There is huge demand for the homes at Bolton Gardens, with six homes reserved as soon as they were released.

Caroline van Niekerk, our Sales, Marketing & Design Director, said “We are very excited to partner with Auxesia Homes to offer Shared Ownership properties to our hard-working servicemen and women, but particularly, in light of the pandemic, to those serving the NHS.”

Work is well underway at Bolton Gardens, and Skipton Properties and Auxesia Homes have now launched their first off-plan homes for standard and Shared Ownership sales.

Interested applicants for shared-ownership homes may register their interest via Auxesia Homes website, www.auxesiahomes.co.uk, or by contacting Auxesia Homes in-house shared ownership sales team using the following email, [email protected].

  • Meet our team

Some of our team at St Stephen's Place in Skipton where Lee is currently situated
The team at St Stephen’s Place

Our family team is at the heart of our business, and we’re proud that many of our colleagues have been with us for many years. In a new series we’ll be introducing the people behind our homes, from the Head Office team who run the business side of things, to the Sales Advisors who guide our customers through the process of buying a home from us, to the skilled craftsmen who transform our sites into beautiful new communities across Yorkshire and Lancashire.

And who better to kick off our Meet the Team feature than Lee Hinton? Lee has moved up within the ranks of the company and really risen to the challenge in his role as Site Manager, which is reflected in the fact that he was recently shortlisted for the LABC North West People and Place Award for Site Manager of the Year!

What experience do you bring to your role at Skipton Properties Lee? How long have you worked for the company?

My entire career has been in construction, and I first started working for Skipton 23 years ago, as a plasterer. Four years ago I was promoted to Assistant Site Manager, and I became Site Manager two years ago.

What’s your favourite development you’ve worked on?

I really enjoyed overseeing The Sycamores at Coniston Cold – I got a real sense of achievement watching it evolve from a farmer’s field to a development of six stone homes, which we built to a really beautiful standard. Currently I’m at St. Stephen’s Place in Skipton, which is a complex, Grade II listed site. I’m really proud of the finish myself and the team are achieving on the homes here.

What’s the hardest thing about building houses?

Getting the timings right. There are multiple trades to arrange when constructing homes and it’s crucial that they get access at exactly the right time and don’t hold the process up. To give you an idea, we’re talking bricklayers, joiners, plumbers, electricians, glaziers, tilers, kitchen fitters, painters, carpet fitters…it’s a bit like conducting an orchestra!

What’s the best thing about building houses?

When everything’s done and the home is completed to a high standard so it can be handed over to a hopefully very happy customer.

  • Bolton Gardens is LIVE

    THE WAIT IS OVER

Bolton Gardens has been many years in the making, and we’re delighted to bring the development to market.

We are creating a total of 77 homes at Bolton Gardens, each one built with care and attention to detail by our trusted team of craftsmen. Behind the traditional, natural stone elevations you’ll find homes that are made for modern life, with floorplans designed to accommodate family, entertaining and home working. Our comprehensive specifications factor in energy-saving tech, high quality fixtures and fittings and clean, contemporary interior design as standard, with the flexibility to style your kitchen and bathrooms, and make upgrades from our range of little extras.

Our first release (Plots 46-55) consists of ten, 3 and 4 bedroom detached homes. To be eligible, you will need to be ready to proceed, that is with your house on the market with offers imminent if not already received or with the sale agreed and underway, or in rented accommodation. Our first homes will be available for occupation this Winter. If you have missed out on the homes in this first phase, please do still peruse the house style you are interested in as we will have further homes available in later phases.

  • New development acquired on Aldersley Avenue

We’re extremely excited to announce that we have acquired a new development site on Aldersley Avenue, Skipton. We’ll build 98 new homes, including 20 affordable homes.

Construction will commence in early 2022, with the first homes being released in the Summer. The development will include a selection of natural stone 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes and will offer a range of accommodation styles for modern living. Both two and three storey homes will feature utilising the existing topography of the site.

The development has been sensitively designed and is reflective of local feedback received in the consultation process. The design will ensure the area around Jenny Beck continues to be a destination for wildlife and further enhances the local landscape.

Sarah Barraclough, Managing Director, has said ‘We’re extremely excited to be building in Skipton again. Our previous development, Elsey Croft, was a huge success and provided 103 quality homes for Skipton. We hope Aldersley Avenue will be similarly received’

  • Charity update: Manorlands Hospice

    Manorlands

The pandemic didn’t stop our fundraising efforts for local charities, but it did put our cheque handover to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice on hold…

…Fortunately our Managing Director Sarah Barraclough was able to meet with Rachel Binns, Head of Hospice Fundraising at Manorlands Hospice, last month and present her with a cheque for £9,561.

This grand total represents the amount we raised during our virtual team challenge late last year – thank you to all our supporters and sponsors! You might remember that we individually ran, walked, cycled and swam the distance between Skipton and the two European towns it’s twinned with (a total of 912 miles!)

Sarah Barraclough said: “Manorlands Hospice carries out essential work in our local area and it’s a cause that is very close to our hearts. We heard that the Coronavirus pandemic was having a huge impact on their funding, and we wanted to do raise as much money as we could to show our support.”

Rachel Binns said: “We’re so grateful to the team at Skipton Properties for taking on this challenge to support our hospice during what has been a very challenging time.  We remain heavily reliant on individuals and companies donating and fundraising for us so our nurses, doctors and healthcare teams can continue to provide specialist care and fill last days with love.”

Manorlands Hospice is located in Oxenhope and provides expert palliative care, advice and support for people across Bradford and Craven who are living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families. It also offers community services for people who prefer to receive palliative care at home. Find out more about the hospice here and more about the Sue Ryder charity here.

  • Charity update: Skipton playgrounds

Earlier this year we distributed the first in our latest round of charity grants, and recently we received the exciting news that the project, a children’s playground at the Raikes Road Recreation Ground in Skipton, is now open to the public.

We were delighted to contribute £500 to the project, which was undertaken by Skipton Town Council and entailed substantial landscaping works as well as the purchase and installation of play equipment. The addition of the playground, which features a trampoline as well as swings, slides and climbing frames, has made the recreation ground much more engaging and welcoming for local children.

    playground

The playground officially opened in early September, with the opening was attended by Mayor Karen McIntyre, local boy Luke Mortimer and his family, local Councillor John Dawson and Mark Robinson from the Skipton Town Council Estates team (above). Below is a work-in-progress picture showing the extent of the work that needed to be carried out in order to create the playground. If you’re local to Skipton and fancy paying a visit to the playground, you’ll find the entrance to the Raikes Road Recreation Ground here.

Asked about the playground project, our Sales, Marketing & Design Director, Caroline van Niekerk, said: “Skipton Properties was delighted to contribute to the new playground on Raikes Road. Regeneration projects, including the homes we’ve recently created in the former St. Stephen’s School nearby, form a large part of what we do as property developers, so the idea of helping to breathe new life into a rather unloved piece of land really appealed. We were also glad to contribute to a project that will benefit and be enjoyed by people in our local area. The team at Skipton Town Council has done a fantastic job, and we hope the playground will provide lots of fun for local families for many years to come.”

Speaking of St. Stephen’s School and our development just up the road in Skipton, our close proximity to St. Stephen’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery, which replaced the Victorian school we’re currently transforming into homes next door, has meant we’ve been able to provide hands-on support. Earlier this year we undertook some essential repairs to the school playground, receiving the wonderful hand-drawn cards above as a thank you, and last week we were able to provide emergency assistance with a drainage issue. Our team was delighted to help out, as you can see from the pictures shared by the school below!

  • Warehouse living in the heart of Haworth

After months of painstaking work, we recently released the first of our converted homes at Ebor Mills for sale. The three-bedroom townhouses within the former Warehouse offer a desirable blend of history, industrial architecture and modern design – let’s take a closer look…

The Warehouse was constructed in the second half of the 19th century, parallel to the original Spinning Mill, at the height of the expansion of Ebor Mills. At this time the mill complex was owned by the Merrall brothers and it would have been a hive of industry, producing one of the largest quantities of worsted, a fine wool yarn, in Yorkshire. (Discover more about Ebor Mills’ heritage here.)

Outside, the Warehouse’s original coursed stone has taken on a lovely patina over the years, and the building’s industrial past can clearly been seen in the large door openings, and the marks left by old hoists and other machinery. We’ve retained the tall window openings and their decorative stone surrounds, but have installed replacement conservation windows – these homes will benefit from an abundance of natural light.

    Evolution of Ebor Mills

Our careful conversion of the Warehouse makes the most of its striking industrial architecture whilst making sure the homes inside are made for modern life. We’ve created five unique three-bedroom, three-storey townhouses and kitted them out with our Premium specification, which features sleek interior design, customisable kitchen and bathrooms, and smart, energy-saving tech.

On the ground floor of each home is an open plan living space with a well-appointed kitchen, space for sitting and dining, and double doors opening onto the rear garden. Each home also has a ground floor WC accessible via the entrance hall, plus a useful utility cupboard. Up on the first floor are two double bedrooms and two bedrooms – one an en suite shower room and the other a family bathroom with bath – while the second floor is home to the spacious master suite. Besides an en suite bathroom with bath, the master bedrooms all have double doors leading to the patio terrace. Luckily, this private, south-facing sun trap is also accessible via the main landing on the second floor, so all residents can enjoy it! As well as benefitting from two outdoor spaces – both the roof terrace and rear garden – the Warehouse plots also boast two parking spaces each, and access to a shared EV charging point.

  • Take a look around our brand new Show Home at Ebor Mills

    ebor mills show home

We recently threw open the doors to our latest Show Home, at our landmark Ebor Mills development in Haworth. Let’s take a look around…

With a backdrop of original, Grade II-listed mill buildings, including the soaring chimney, this new, natural stone and slate house looks right at home in its historic surroundings. Surrounded by turfed and planted front and rear gardens, the home has a long driveway for off-street parking as well as an all-important garage.

    ebor mills show home

Inside, our interior designer has scattered striking statement walls throughout the home. A rich taupe paint shade has been used in the entrance hallway and cloakroom, while a feature wall runs the length of the large open plan living space (below). Here we’ve chosen a wallpaper that provides visual interest and texture whilst blending with the warm neutral colour scheme.

    ebor mills show home

Whilst the living space is open plan, it’s also thoughtfully zoned, with separate spaces for seating and dining (as well as the kitchen!) Large windows provide plenty of natural light, while double doors lead to the rear garden. The picture below was taken with these doors behind, looking towards the main entrance, and you can just see the stairs to the upper floor that lead directly up from the living space. The oak effect Karndean flooring is always a popular choice in our homes, and it works perfectly with the decor.

    ebor mills show home

The well-appointed kitchen features stylish off-white units complemented by sleek stainless steel handles, on-trend white metro tiling and beautiful quartz work surfaces. A window behind the sink provides garden views whilst you wash up, though the integrated Zanussi appliances include a dishwasher! There’s also space for a washing machine.

    ebor mills show home

Upstairs, three bedrooms and the house bathroom open from the bright landing, which also features handy storage. We’ve chosen soft yet hard-wearing carpets in a versatile shade of grey, plus gorgeous grey tiles for the bathroom, for a luxurious spa feel

The bathroom features contemporary white sanitaryware by Nuance with Hansgrohe taps and power shower over the bath. Internal doors and woodwork have been painted in fresh gloss white, and the former finished with traditional black ironmongery.

    ebor mills show home

Of the three bedrooms, two are large doubles. Both have plenty of space for clothing storage and accent furniture, and both have focal feature walls. Bedroom 1’s feature wall has been wallpapered in a subtle, tonal print for a restful look…

…while Bedroom 2’s makes more of a statement. Soft colours mean this trailing floral print, which is reminiscent of spring blossoms, is still wonderfully easy to live with. Both bedrooms boast feature lighting, from the Art Deco-esque mini chandelier in Bedroom 1 to the gorgeous hanging pendants either side of the bed in Bedroom 2.

    ebor mills show home

The third bedroom is a single, and we think the decor is about as stylish as a child’s room can be, with a gentle monochrome colour palette plus more statement wallpaper and feature lighting – this time kid-friendly versions!

Our Show Home is even better in the flesh, and we’d love to show you around in person! Contact us to book a tour via email ([email protected]) or by calling 01535 288000.

Looking for a similar home to this one? Our Show Home isn’t currently on sale, but it’s similar to our Lamb house style, one of which is still available (take a look here). Take a look at all the homes which are currently available at Ebor Mills here.

  • Join us for the launch of the Apartments at St. Stephen’s Place

After months of painstaking work, we’re delighted that we’ll at last be able to welcome visitors to the Apartments at St. Stephen’s Place in Skipton on Saturday 31st July and Sunday 1st August.

Appointments for the opening weekend have booked up fast, so if you haven’t already contacted us to book your slot, do so today! You can call us on 01756 630536 or email [email protected]. We’re open for drinks, nibbles and a tour from 10:30am – 5pm, subject to availability.

The Apartments at St. Stephen’s Place are the last properties still available at the development, and these four homes are as unique as the historic building which houses them. This former school dates back to 1854 and is packed with stunning original features which we’ve carefully restored, from the decorative stonework to the soaring lancet windows.

Restored wooden windows at St. Stephen’s Place, custom-made for us by a Yorkshire-based joiner

Each apartment has been cleverly carved out within the walls of St. Stephen’s. We’ve been able to add two extra storeys to the building by using innovative mezzanine floors that don’t obstruct the line of the windows. The four duplex apartments are in two similar styles, both of which have open plan living spaces, WCs and storage on the main floor and two double bedrooms and a bathroom with bath above, plus luxury specifications. With each style, one apartment occupies the ground and first floors of the main building and the other occupies its second and third floors. There are exposed beams, while the original vaulted ceilings are a breathtaking feature of the two upper apartments in both styles. All apartments have a designated parking space each, plus access to an electric vehicle charging point and the tranquil communal garden with scented and edible plants.

The rear of St. Stephen’s Place, featuring a section of Apartments 2 and 6 and the entrance to Apartments 3 and 7

  • All about Addingham

    Addingham
A view of the Twelve Apostles surrounded by heather on Rombalds Moor. This prehistoric stone circle is believed to date back to the Bronze Age.

If you’re looking for a charming country village with a rich history and picturesque setting in which to make a home, Addingham, site of our latest development, Parsons Meadow, is hard to beat.

This ancient village was named in the Domesday Book, but easily-visible evidence in the surrounding moors proves that the area has been populated for thousands of years. Rombalds Moor, to the south-east of the village, is home to the Twelve Apostles stone circle as well as numerous stones carved with decorative ‘cup and circle’ patterns, all believed to date back to the Bronze Age.

The incredible surrounding landscape – Addingham is also just south of the Yorkshire Dales National Park – is surely one of the best things about living here, so prepare to lace up your hiking boots and head out to explore the beauty that’s right on your doorstep.

    Addingham
The Doubler Stones of Rombalds Moor, rock formations that formed naturally, despite their toadstool-like appearance, and were rumoured to be haunted!

The village itself is made up of traditional, local stone buildings, many of which are hundreds of years old. There are four pubs of similar vintage still serving the village, including the oldest, The Fleece, whose name nods to the long history of sheep farming and spinning in the area, and The Craven Heifer, named for an enormous 19th century cow which was something of a local celebrity! Speaking of farming and spinning, Addingham’s main industry was agriculture until the late 18th century, when textile manufacturing arrived in the village. A series of mills was built along the banks of the River Wharfe, including one that claimed to be the world’s first successful worsted (a fine wool yarn) mill. We’ve named the house styles at Parsons Meadow after prominent local families, including some who were involved in textile manufacturing.

A view of Addingham village, with typical old houses constructed from local stone.

Addingham’s Main Street is home to a series of independent shops and businesses, from hair salons to a second-hand book store to a dog groomer, plus a Co-op supermarket. There’s also a village primary school (rated Good by Ofsted in 2020), various pre-school groups and sports clubs.

The village is a short drive from the pretty former spa town of Ilkley, recently voted the best place to live in the North by The Times newspaper thanks to its eco-conscious community spirit. Skipton and Silsden, with their respective shops, supermarkets, schools and rail links, are also within easy driving distance. Both Harrogate, another popular Victorian spa town, and the city of Leeds are less than 20 miles away.

We’re delighted to be building six brand new luxury family homes in Addingham. Discover Parsons Meadow here.
