  • £5,000 for Airedale General Hospital Neonatal Unit

In December we gave £5,000 to the Neonatal Unit at Airedale General Hospital, which provides specialist care for babies that need extra help and support following birth.

Staffed by 21 nurses, the unit provides round-the-clock care for around 200 babies every year, as well as providing support for parents whose babies are being cared for on it. It is also where Caroline van Niekerk, our Sales, Marketing and Design Director (pictured far left), was born!

The donation will be used to update the parents’ sitting and kitchen area, with a new seating area and TV being installed, to make it more welcoming for parents who often spend many hours on the unit while visiting their babies. It will also be used to fund parent journey bags, which are given to every family entering the unit and contain goodies for both parents and babies, as well as a milestone book in which parents can record their baby’s time on the ward.

We gave the Neonatal Unit the donation as part of our charity initiative, which sees us give away £1,000 every month to support worthy causes in the areas where it builds homes. We upped our donation amount in December to celebrate the excellent care and support the Neonatal Unit provides to babies and families when they need it most, especially at Christmas.

Sarah Szpara, Senior Sister on the Neonatal Unit, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Skipton Properties has given us such a generous donation, which will allow us to provide a much more welcoming and relaxing space for parents whose babies are being looked after here.

“Everyone knows that the NHS is severely underfunded and without help like this, we just can’t invest in this type of thing. It’s a highly stressful and overwhelming time for parents when their babies are on the unit, so a place close by where they can rest and relax makes a huge difference and helps make their time here less stressful. This donation will make that possible and help hundreds of parents.”

Caroline added: “This is such a worthwhile cause that will make a genuine difference, and we hope our donation will help to make families time on the unit as comfortable as possible.”

Do you have a local charity we could help?

We’d still like to hear from other local charities in the towns and villages in each of our current and future developments launching over the next 12 months. The only criteria is that the charity benefits local people. Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis in advance of the next month’s charitable donation. Visit www.skiptonproperties.com/charity/ to complete your application.

  • Our latest community grant: Ribble Rivers Trust

    Ribble Rivers Trust
A view of Long Preston Deeps from Mearbeck

Every month we’re donating £1,000 to a worthy cause that will benefit local people in an area where we have a current or upcoming development. We’re pleased to announce that our latest community grant was made to Ribble Rivers Trust and will be used to create a new area of woodland at Mearbeck in North Yorkshire.

Ribble Rivers Trust is a non-profit organisation that provides environmental improvements for people and wildlife along and around the River Ribble. Over the last year alone the organisation has planted 24,000 trees, run over 150 volunteering days and delivered six fish pass projects, opening up over 46km of waterway.

Our donation will enable the Trust to plant 300 new saplings and create a quarter of a hectare of new woodland at Mearbeck. Caroline Verity, Sales, Marketing and Design Director at Skipton Properties, said: “We are always looking at ways to help reduce our environmental impact and give back to the communities living in areas where we build new homes. We are creating a new development, Kings Mill Residences, in Settle, so our donation will allow Ribble Rivers Trust to create a new area of woodland close by, providing a natural habitat for wildlife and a new environment for local people to enjoy.”

    Ribble Rivers Trust
    The Mearbeck watercourse

Matthew Powell, Agricultural Projects Officer at Ribble Rivers Trust, added: “This new woodland area forms part of a larger farm scheme which has been developed with the landowner and Ribble Rivers Trust. The scheme will see approximately 750 trees planted, 1.1km of watercourse fencing erected, 1.3km of new hedgerow planted, and 260m of watercourse re-naturalised.  The benefits of the scheme include a reduction in runoff by increased soil infiltration, improved water quality, and increased and improved habitat biodiversity, all whilst improving grazing management for the landowner via improved field boundaries.”

  • Spotlight on…The Craven at The Rise, Harden

    The Craven
    The Craven at dusk

The latest Skipton Properties home in the spotlight is The Craven, a four-bed property at The Rise in Harden. Just ten homes are still remaining at this sought-after development, so we caught up with some happy homeowners to help you picture what it’s like to live in one of our beautiful homes.

This couple really did their research before deciding to buy from Skipton Properties and they are delighted with their decision. They were already living close by in Harden and weren’t actively looking to move, but they liked the look and location of the homes we’re creating at The Rise, so decided to visit another of our developments to take a good look around. They were really impressed with the build quality and value that we offer as standard, especially when compared with other developers. After spending time talking to our Sales Advisors and understanding the lengths we go to when designing and building our homes, they believe that the Skipton Properties USP is providing our homeowners with more of the features that matter.

The Craven is a detached four-bedroom home with garage, and our homeowners were attracted to the property because of the fantastic value it offered per square foot. They like the balance and size of the rooms and the fact that The Craven offers a conventional layout with plenty of storage – great for families! Not only is it a well-designed, warm and cosy home with lots of space and bags of character, but it also offers plenty of stunning outside space. Both the generous front and rear gardens are beautifully landscaped, which these customers found is rare when it comes to new build homes.

    Plot 3 - 8 Harden
The developing street scene at The Rise, Harden

Our homeowners really made the most of the opportunity to customise their home at their selection appointment. We offer a wide array of options for personalising kitchens and bathrooms that are available as standard, but these buyers found that adding in extras at this stage worked out as excellent value for money. They chose to invest in everything from an integrated microwave and upgraded feature sink and tap for the kitchen to full tiling for their en suite bathroom. They loved the feeling of moving into a brand new home that was exactly the way they wanted it.

Skipton Properties is a family-owned and run business and these customers described seeing the benefits of this throughout the process of buying and moving into their new home and feeling the family ethos and attention to detail in all their dealings with us. Why not come and discover the Skipton Properties difference for yourself? The Craven is no longer available but similar properties are still available. Our Harden show home is open Thursday – Monday 10:30am – 5pm and our Sales Advisor Karen is on hand to talk you through the last 10 remaining homes.

  • Spotlight on…The Fewston at The Bridge, Haworth

    The Fewston

When you’re reserving a home off-plan it can be hard to get a sense of what it will look like once it’s complete, and what it will be like to actually live in it. With that in mind, we’re catching up with some of our happy homeowners to shine a spotlight on their Skipton Properties homes.

First up, The Fewston, which you’ll find at The Bridge, our development in the historic village of Haworth. The unique, slightly quirky layout of this property really appealed to our homeowners. They are pleased with how much space they have, with visitors describing their home as a ‘Tardis’ and commenting on the high ceilings. The Fewston’s accommodation is spread over three floors, with living space on the ground and second floors and bedrooms on the first. This townhouse-style configuration is both hard to come by in the local area and eminently adaptable. As young professionals who often work from home it suited our customers to use their third bedroom as an office, and they’ve found they’re very productive working in such happy surroundings!

The airy living spaces at The Fewston particularly appealed to these homeowners. They like to entertain so they love the island kitchen on the ground floor and the open plan second floor, which leads to a large roof terrace. This low-maintenance space is ideal if gardening isn’t your forte – simply add some pot plants and outdoor furniture to create a dream al fresco space. The Fewston homes have been cleverly positioned to maximise natural light. Our customers moved in just in time to enjoy the last of the summer sun, which catches the roof terrace in the afternoon, while morning rays greet them from the balcony leading off their master suite.

Our homeowners enjoy the privacy and quiet their new home affords them whilst being within easy walking distance of the village centre. They love the beautiful view from the rear of the property, which takes in Bridgehouse Beck and the railway, and often see deer in the field opposite. The driveway also provides extra privacy, as The Fewston is set back from the street, and coupled with the garage it means there are no worries when it comes to parking.

Being able to personalise their home with their choice of worktops, door fronts and handles in the kitchen and tiling there and in the bathrooms really appealed to this couple. They recommend thinking carefully about how you’ll use your Skipton Properties home and making the most of the opportunity to customise it. Many options are included in the purchase price, with the option to pay for additional extras.

Our customers are loving their home. Just five of these distinctive modern properties are now remaining at The Bridge, priced from £280,000, so why not discover The Fewston for yourself? Our Show Home is open Thursday-Monday 10:30am-5pm and you can contact our Sales Advisor Lisa on 01535 288009 to find out more.

  • Esther McVey visits The Exchange, Shipley

Esther McVey and Philip Davies visit The Exchange, Shipley

Our MD, Sarah Barraclough, was delighted to meet the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Esther McVey, and Shipley MP, Philip Davies, to show them around The Exchange, Shipley, on 9th October.

Our visitors were full of praise for The Exchange, as it provides affordable, sustainable new homes for local people, and was built on a derelict site that we redeveloped with the help of a grant from Homes England. Esther McVey shared her thoughts on Twitter, saying: “This is an unbelievable site and project, which shows exactly how an industrial area can be totally regenerated. The amount of change and land reclamation that needed to be done at this site was quite incredible but look what’s been achieved. Skipton Properties is building better and more beautiful homes that are in keeping with the hills of Yorkshire, at a price people can afford, and where people want to live.”

Sarah Barraclough added: “We are experts at taking unloved, neglected areas and completely transforming these often difficult sites into genuinely beautiful homes that blend seamlessly with the surroundings and benefit the local community. On this particular brownfield site, we worked closely with Homes England to make sure we had the infrastructure to fulfil our vision. For The Exchange to be picked out by the Housing Minister as a shining example of new build homes is testament to the hard work of our team.”

Of the 85 homes available at The Exchange, the majority were bought by first-time buyers, many of whom also made use of the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. We’re delighted to have helped so many local people get on the property ladder, and we’re keen to continue working with Esther McVey and her department to find ways to regenerate disused land and fund and build sustainable homes that are fit for the future.

See for yourself why The Exchange has been such a hit with buyers and ministers alike! Only three one bedroom apartments, priced from £87,500, are still available and if you reserve now we’ll cover the cost of your flooring and have you in your new home in time for Christmas! Click here to find out more.

  • £1,000 to Harden Primary School PTFA

Harden Primary School PTFA has benefitted from our £1,000 donation, which it will spend on improving the school playground.

We’ve given the PTFA the money as part of our charity initiative, which sees us give away £1,000 every month to support worthy causes in the areas where we build homes.

Harden Primary School PTFA is a small committee of six people who work with parents to raise money to help support the primary school. With very little extra funding available to the school, the PTFA works tirelessly to raise money so that it can provide extra provisions that benefit pupils.

Money it has previously raised has been used to buy outdoor play equipment and new books for the school, as well as paying for Christmas parties and school forestry trips.

Jenny Hird, chairperson of the PTFA, said: “We’re over the moon to receive this generous donation from Skipton Properties, which we plan to use on making some major improvements to the school playground.

“School funding is at an all time low, so donations like this really make a difference and provide much-needed extra funds that are spent on things that really benefit both pupils and staff at the school.”

Sarah, our Managing Director said: “It’s no secret that most schools are financially over-stretched, so committees like Harden PTFA make a huge difference.

“We’re delighted to have been able to help out and hope the pupils at Harden Primary enjoy the playground improvements that the money will be spent on.”

Apply for next month’s charity grant to be announced in October…..

We’d like to hear from other local charities in the towns and villages in each of its current and future developments launching over the next 12 months. The only criteria is that the charity benefits local people. Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis in advance of the next month’s charitable donation.
