  • Victoria Fold, Sabden and The Rise, Harden Show Homes

We are now open at both of our newest Show Homes, Victoria Fold in Sabden and The Rise in Harden…

Visit our Sales Advisors Pam and Karen Thursday through to Monday 10:30am – 5pm.

Both developments offer a selection of natural stone homes for would-be homeowners in styles to suit the local area.

At Victoria Fold in Sabden, Lancashire, we have paid homage to the development’s industrial past and painstakingly used the stone and slate we reclaimed from the demolition of the previous mill buildings. We’ve paired these natural materials with dark upvc windows to create striking homes full of character. Great attention to detail has been given to the ecology on this development, having been a previous habitat for numerous bats and birds. Low lumen lighting, bat and bird boxes are therefore installed throughout the development. Six homes have been reserved thus far. View the development here and visit us to tour the four bedroom Hartford Show Home and view our three bedroom Edward and Pendleton homes in progress.

At The Rise in Harden, West Yorkshire, we have been in our Marketing Suite for some time now, and saw a host of reservations off plan. Due to this, we’ll be welcoming our first customers into their homes next month. Fear not however, we still have a selection of homes available, and now with our Show Home open, buyers can view the quality of our homes and better visualise our homes at the development. Explore the Show Home and talk to Karen regarding our newly released large four bedroom home, The Hartwith or Crowther house styles, or peruse the plans for the three bedroom Eavestone or Elliott styles. View the development information and show home imagery here.

We look forward to discussing your home search with you….

  • August’s community grant: a life-saving defibrillator for Cowpe, Rossendale

August’s community grant has been donated £1,000 to Cowpe Sunday School to help fund the installation of a life-saving defibrillator in the village.

We recognised a vital need for a defibrillator in rural Cowpe, where the nearest A & E department is now a 30 minute drive away, and gave the donation as part of our recently launched charity initiative, which sees us give away £1,000 each month to worthy causes in the areas we build homes.

The life-saving device will be situated, once installed, outside Cowpe Sunday School and Community Hall, which is used by everyone from local pensioners who attend for lunch clubs and social events, to mums and their tots who attend toddler groups together.

Wendy Davison, who fundraises for Cowpe Sunday School, explained: “Since Burnley’s A & E department closed, we’ve been discussing how to tackle the emergency services provision in our village and the desperate need for more publicly-accessible defibrillators in the area.

“We’re so delighted that Skipton Properties has stepped in to help, along with East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group, who’ve also kindly donated £650. Sincere thanks to them both for making this possible – it’s a great example of local businesses and organisations working together to support their local communities.”

Caroline Verity, our sales, design and marketing director at Skipton Properties, has said: “The new defibrillator has the potential to save lives, so of course we wanted to help fund such an important initiative for the people of Cowpe. We’re happy to be able to increase our commitment to the safety and care of the local community, and invest in the future of the area.”

Many of you may know that we transformed the disused former mill site in Cowpe last year, turning it into a new community of 20 four and five-bedroom homes. The last home in the popular Kearns Village development sold in July this year.

Apply for your own charitable cause

We would now like to hear from other local charities in the towns and villages in each of our current and future developments launching over the next 12 months. The only criteria is that the charity benefits local people.

We’d like to thank those of you who have already applied. We are afraid, due to the level of applications, we receive, we can’t reply to you all. We’ll be in touch if you secure one of our month’s grant.

Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis in advance of the next month’s charitable donation. We release information on those worthy causes we award our grants to via our news area of our website, local news and social media. Our next award, September’s charitable grant, will be announced later this month. Visit www.skiptonproperties.com/charity/ to complete your application.

  • The Cave Rescue Organisation, Clapham funds vital kit with our donation

We recently donated £10,000 to the Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) in Clapham, North Yorkshire to fund life-saving new equipment and kit, after it was depleted following a long attempted rescue of a caver in June this year.

Every time the CRO is called out to an incident, the kit they use has to be replenished. As such, friends and family appealed for funds to replace equipment used by The Cave Rescue Organisation during this large-scale rescue process, which resulted in £14,000 of charitable donations.

Heather Eastwood from The CRO said:“So far this year, we have attended 74 incidents: 45 walking, 3 climbing, 2 off road biking, 4 fell running, 1 paragliding, 1 canyoning, 1 swiftwater, 5 caving and 4 miscellaneous. After all incidents, kit needs to be repacked or replaced, so we need spares of everything. The money we received from Skipton Properties allowed us to replenish vital equipment and we’re incredibly grateful to them and the other people who donated this summer. Their generosity will undoubtedly help us save more lives.”

The CRO is a charity whose volunteers respond to cave and mountain rescue calls in the Three Peaks and Malham areas of the Yorkshire Dales. The voluntary rescue team is made up of local experienced cavers, climbers and walkers who give their time freely to help those in need of assistance. The team is funded entirely by charitable donations and is on call at all times, day or night.

We recently visited The CRO to see how our donation had been used and were overwhelmed by the incredible work The CRO does, and the sheer passion and kindness of the volunteers who make it happen. To see their work in action and the equipment they’ve been able to buy following our donation was an honour, and we’re just pleased to have been able to help such a worthy cause.

We’re committed to supporting local charities in the towns and villages where we build new homes, giving away a regular £1,000 a month to a chosen charity. Our only criteria is that the charity benefits local people. Applications are reviewed on a monthly basis –  please visit www.skiptonproperties.com/charity/ to complete your application. We look forward to hearing from you.

  • House price growth is slowing but buying still beats renting

A recent article in the Times newspaper highlighted that the era of dizzying house price growth may be over, but confirms research shows buying a home still makes financial sense. It reads:

‘The monthly cost of paying the interest on a new mortgage is now 62 per cent lower than renting, according to Capital Economics, a research consultancy. It found that the average monthly rent for a property was £859, compared with the £323 average monthly interest on a new mortgage.

In comparison, between 2010 and 2018, the average interest on a mortgage was 55 per cent lower than the average rent. Paying the interest on a mortgage in the 2000s was only 27 per cent cheaper than paying the rent.’

It also advises that the English Housing Survey shows that the number of people taking out a mortgage is growing too. Our discussions with the Mortgage Advice Bureau have highlighted that lenders still have a good appetite to lend and as such mortgage rates should still remain competitive.

If you’re currently renting and would like to get your foot on the property ladder, talk to one of our Sales Advisors who will be able to put you in touch with a financial advisor to help assess your finances and find the right mortgage for you, enabling you to buy a new home and start a new journey.

Help to Buy may also assist, allowing you to buy your new home with only a 5% deposit. Help to Buy is available across all of our developments including the Bridge in Haworth, The Rise in Harden, The Exchange in Shipley ,The School House in Barnoldswick and Victoria Fold in Sabden,

  • The launch of Victoria Fold

On Saturday 31st August we will be launching our new homes in Sabden

Victoria Fold in Sabden, Lancashire is a development of 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes. In the most part, built out of the reclaimed stone from the old Victoria Mill the site was home to.

Victoria Fold is a Verity & Family homes development, meaning the upmost attention to detail has been given to the design, construction and materials used to build our homes in order to retain the ‘industrial’ heritage feel that the old ‘Victoria Mill’ would have had for the village of Sabden and the local people.

Cottage style workers terracing to Watt Street, a mill style building form to Whalley Road replaces the now demolished mill, creating 3 dwellings backing onto Sabden Brook and form an inner heart to the scheme. The design enables the opening up of the Sabden Brook watercourse enhancing the waterway and providing a natural ecological corridor for local wildlife. Homes have been orientated to overlook this enhanced watercourse.

The sensitive rebuilding of the Marbill ‘Office’ Building as three bespoke dwellings sat on the edge of Sabden Brook within the Sabden Conservation Area, creates an important retained feature to the corner of the development providing visual comfort and reminding people who knew the site before its redevelopment of the development’s history. A permanent reminder of its name to its Eastern Gable will be attached in stone to the building, reflecting the name it had whilst it was an operational feature of the Mill.

The additional of two new stone chimney ‘Ecological Towers’ utilising the reclaimed stone from the original mill chimney to both ends of the Brook all aid in enabling its story to be told as the next chapter for Victoria Mill and Sabden.

A range of home sizes and styles that have reflected the needs of Sabden, with the emphasis on 3 and 4 bedroom properties all have the local vernacular reflected in their design and detailing as it would have been when mills like Victoria were first created.

On the launch we’ll be opening the doors to the Show Home situated in one of our four bedroom homes on the development, The Hartford. Join us Saturday, Sunday or Monday 10:30am – 5pm and reserve your home.

  • Our first community grant: Haworth RDA

A few months ago we announced that we would be donating £1,000 each month to support worthy causes in areas where we build homes….

We’re delighted to announce the first beneficiary: Haworth Riding For The Disabled Group (Haworth RDA).

Haworth RDA helps to improve the health and well-being of people living with disabilities by providing them with horse riding and stable management lessons, after school clubs, holiday clubs, lunch clubs, social events and outings.

The money from will be put towards funding the salary of a coach who can teach more children on the charity’s mechanical horse simulator, Penny.

Many of the charity’s disabled riders have no experience of horses and can be overwhelmed by them. Some are too heavy to be supported on a real horse, and some disabled riders aspire to compete nationally and need to learn and practice skills at a speed that does not allow side walkers. For these riders, Haworth RDA’s mechanical horse simulator ‘Penny’ is crucial.  Penny is currently used by 12 disabled people, but increasing the working hours of the coach will allow an additional 16 disabled people to use her.

Jane Lawrence, Fundraiser at Haworth RDA, added: “We’re delighted that Skipton Properties has donated this money. It will help us to help 16 more local disabled people.

“Horse riding builds core strength, improves balance and coordination, makes a person more flexible and increases motor skills. Many of our participants also feel isolated because of their disability and struggle to find recreational and social outlets that understand their needs. Riding the mechanical horse and becoming involved in RDA activities addresses these issues and allows our riders to become part of a community where they can build new skills and gain confidence.”

We also ask that anyone applying do so via the form on the charity page. We aren’t accepting applications via our email address.

Please be patient with us! We review all of the applications in one go at the end of each month. if you have applied already and weren’t successful this time, your application will roll over into the next month.

  • A development with an industrial heritage

The Hartford (Show Home) and Read homes

The site of the former Victoria Mills in the village of Sabden, Lancashire is being transformed into 30 new homes…

Reclaimed stone and slate from the former mill, as well as dark windows have been used to reflect the development’s industrial heritage. Two eco towers will be created out of the former mill tower and will be used to create focal points alongside Sabden Brook. A landscaping scheme has been designed to blend all of these elements together.

The development is split into two parts, one on either side of Sabden Brook.  The larger of the two will be accessed from Watt Street and will feature a selection of three and four bedroom homes. The second, located off Whalley Road, will feature the largest homes on the development and will be home to just 6 properties. Many of our homes located to the south west of the development will benefit from the views to the adjoining farmland. Of course, all of our homes will sit against the backdrop of the dramatic Pendle countryside.

    The view behind Plots 12-15

We wanted to use the reclaimed stone from the mill in order to retain its historical importance for the village, the reclaimed slate provides the finishing touches. The development has been designed with ecology at its heart and as such there will be bat and bird boxes positioned throughout. The lighting to the homes has also been considered. Each property will feature low lumen lighting in order to create the right habitat for the species found on the development.
