  • Discovering Keighley – Hitching Stone

    We’re highlighting the hidden gems in Keighley and its surrounding areas this month.

    We discovered some beautiful images of Hitching Stone in Keighley and wanted to suggest the walk to you. We’re told it’s quite tough in that much of it is quite boggy, especially at certain times of the year where rainfall is high, but judging by this image it’s worth the struggle. Walking Britain highlights the easiest route, which is from the Post Office in Cowling. For the full route please click here. What is Hitching Stone? It’s said to be Yorkshire’s largest boulder – its weight is estimated to be approximately 1000 tonnes and it was used to mark the boundary between Yorkshire and Lancashire.   • 30,000 first time buyers

    30,000 people took out their first mortgage in July, the highest rate since rate since 2007 according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

    First Time Buyers typically have to put down a 16% deposit, down from 19% at the same time last year. This figure is a national one and thus slightly skewed by higher prices in the south. The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported the figure to be around the 10% mark for homes bought in Yorkshire.

    With the help of the government scheme, Help to Buy, you could halve this deposit and buy a new home with only a 5% deposit. Its aim is to help hard working people like yourself onto or up the property ladder.

    There are a selection of lenders to choose from who are registered with the Help to Buy scheme. These are: Aldermore, Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds, Natwest, Post Office Mortgages, RBS, Santander and Virgin Money.

  • LABC warranty on all our homes

    Complete peace of mind with an LABC warranty on all our homes.

    Sleep soundly when buying a new home from Skipton Properties with a 10 year LABC guarantee. From the moment you move into your home, if anything goes wrong (and we hope it doesn’t) you’re covered.

    Your home is checked by an LABC inspector before you get your keys. Without their go ahead and the certificate that comes with it, we can’t sell you your home to you.

    What to expect?

    • You should receive your LABC Homeowners Handbook that relates to your warranty before you complete your handover check with your Sales Advisor
    • Once you have legally completed you’ll receive your LABC warranty certificate
    • Please read everything that relates to your LABC warranty carefully so you understand what’s included. If you’d like further information you can call the LABC on 0845 054 0505 or speak to our Customer Service team
    • For the first two years Skipton Properties’ is responsible for defects in the build. Faults should be reported directly to Head Office via email. However please call us if there is an emergency
    • Should a dispute occur regarding a default that is covered by your warranty the LABC will investigate this for you and provide a report to you and the home builder (to date, this has never happened!)
    • From year three until year ten of your structural insurance, you must speak directly with the LABC to rectify any issues that may arise (please see policy documents for more information)

    What’s more, certain products we install in our homes come with their own quality guarantee. Our windows and doors at Keighley and Bradford for example all come with a 10 year product guarantee for manufacturing defects. All your appliances will of course have their own warranty – you just need to remember to send off the forms when you move in!

    We hope this gives you peace of mind and makes your move an easier one.

    Maia is a solid work surface that comes with a ten year guarantee for manufacturing faults. It’s that little bit hardier than granite in it stains less, but care still needs to be taken (a care kit is provided to help with this). It’s a great compromise between a laminate and solid surface as it doesn’t cost the earth yet achieves the clean look you desire in your kitchen.
